This project was undertaken by Anveshi in collaboration with the India Network for Basic Income (INBI) to provide select individuals from the transgender community in Hyderabad with a Universal Basic Income and build community through “Care Workshops”. The Project was funded by the American Jewish World Service and the disbursement was carried out for a duration of 12 months, from January 2024 – January 2025.

Salient Features of the Program

The Basic Income and Care for Transgender Persons is unique and innovative in its approach to the inculcation of “Care” as a model of community building within the objective of providing basic income to transgender persons, as a radical social policy intervention.

Highlights of the One-of-a Kind Program:

  • Provide a basic income to selected transgender participants for a period of 12 months
  • Provide a safe space for caring and sharing through the monthly Care Workshops in order to discuss care as a practice for the self/individual and in relation to the community.
  • Develop a research agenda collaboratively on policy intervention for protection of transgender rights and advocacy for universal basic income for marginalized communities.
