Queer-Trans Wellness & Support Center (QT Center)

QT Center is an initiative housed by Anveshi Research Centre for Women’s Studies and run by a collective of Queer people based in Hyderabad that will offer temporary housing, access to counselling and a drop-in space for LGBTQIA+ people. The center is scheduled to open in February 2022.

Center’s Vision

We need safe, accessible spaces for Queer people. Whether it’s places of education/employment, public spaces or even natal homes, there is a huge dearth of care and support for LGBTQIA+ people, an exclusion that was starkly emphasised during the pandemic. In this context, QT Center was conceptualised as a place that offers, beyond emergency relief, the resources necessary for Queer people to rest, to practise art, access mental health care, create and participate in communities of support, care and wellness on their own terms.

Administrative Structure

The initiative has three main components:

  • The Core Collective consists of Queer people living in Hyderabad who will be responsible for the daily operations of the center.
  • The Advisory Board consists of Feminist & Human Rights organisations, Queer lawyers, activists, academics who will work in close cooperation with the Core Collective in the creation and continued implementation of center protocols and offer their guidance and advice in its daily operations.
  • Consultant Advisors are people who will work with the center on a need-to-need basis.
