The library and archives have provided resources for scholars since Anveshi began in 1985. It has been the institutional core of Anveshi’s presence through the years when the research and activism rose and ebbed. Researchers from different parts of India as well as other countries visit our library.
The English collection carries approximately 6000 titles and 40 journals in subject areas including women’s studies, theory, culture, film studies, history, health, education, law and politics.
The Telugu collection carries about 3500 titles and 25 journals of similar scope. There is also a collection of unpublished documents, brochures and pamphlets of significance in related areas.
We hold a collection of 350 DVD and CD feature films and documentaries in Telugu and English.
The voluminous and rich print material researched and collated for the Women Writing in India book project is housed in the Anveshi archives. Copies of rare 19th century women’s journals in Telugu which include Hindu Sundari, Telugu Zenana, Grihalakshmi, Anasuya, Andhra Mahila and Savithri, are also available.
The archival and workshop material generated for the Telugu Cinema: History, Culture, Theory workshop organized in collaboration with Centre for Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore in 1999 is also available with us. One set of the CD-ROMS of the workshop material is at the library.
Anveshi Library brings out a bi-monthly newsletter, which has the following features: the content pages of select journals; new arrivals in the library; book reviews and essays by Anveshi fellows.
Library hours
The library is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm.
Members can use audio-visual facilities at the library.
Photocopying facilities are available at a nominal rate.
Anveshi provides research assistance in the form of locating academic papers for researchers who ask for it.
Membership charges
Students: Rs. 350 (refundable deposit of Rs. 250 + annual library fee of Rs. 100)
General public: Rs. 600 (refundable deposit of Rs 400 + annual library fee of Rs. 200)
Reading only: Rs. 100
